Matti Salminen: Welcome to the Opera!
A TURKU MUSICAL VOYAGE!
 Into his opera The Flying Dutchman Richard Wagner wrote his personal experiences of being on a sailing ship caught in a storm. But not content with just one ship, he had to have two in his opera!
Here in Turku we have two fine historical ships, the Suomen Joutsen and the Sigyn, which now meet both on the River Aura and in Wagner's magnificent music. Never before, as far as I know, has this opera been performed on real ships.
It is a great pleasure and privilege for me to captain a splendid crew of 400 in this unique Turku performance of Wagner's opera.
